William Jewell was born on the 24th October 1824, and was baptised on the
23rd January 1825 in the Parish of St Ithians, Cornwall, England. The Parish register entry (No. 969) shows " William son of Richard and Elizabeth Jewel. Abode : Lancarrow; Trade or Profession (of Father) : miner. Ceremony performed by T.L. Bluett"
On the 13th May 1848, William married Jane Croughey. Jane was the daughter (and 7th child) of Solomon & Ann Croughey (nee phillips) and was born on the 25th March, and then baptised on the 13th April 1828, in the Parish of St Ithians.
After the birth of their first 2 children William and Jane migrated to Australia aboard the "Omega" sailing from Plymouth. and arriving in Adelaide, Sth Australia. To illustrate just how many Englishmen & Women migrated from Cornwall to Australia, the Omega was the seventh of fourteen ships to sail from Plymouth to Sth Australia in 1851.
William and Jane (or should I say Jane!) had 11 children. The first 2 being born in Cornwall, with the others being born in Australia. Their details are as follows;
