According to information taken from the International Genealogy Index (I.G.I.), William Jewell was baptised on the 11th June 1775, in the Parish of Wendron, Cornwall. William was the fifth child of Mathias Jewell and Elizabeth Moyle.

A further search of the I.G.I., has discovered that William Jewell married Grace Tonkin on the 21st September 1799, in the Parish of Wendron. Grace was baptised on the 6th November 1791, her parents were William and Ann Tonkin.

A subsequent search of the I.G.I., has found that William and Grace had 4 children, all shown as being baptised in the neighbouring Parish of Crowan. They were;

William Jewell	- baptised 26th November 1799
Elizabeth Jewell	- baptised 27th February 1804
Matthew Jewell	- baptised 31st October 1807
John Jewell	- baptised 14th February 1811
